MRG at Mackenzie Heights
Mónica Reyes Gallery (MRG) is pleased to announce the opening of a second gallery space located in Mackenzie Heights, part of the historic Arbutus Ridge neighborhood of Vancouver. Mackenzie Heights is a hidden gem located on Vancouver’s westside, a neighborhood that has maintained its historical charm and character while also adapting to the changing landscape of the city. Local shops such as Bigsby, Butter Bake Goods, Windsor Meats Market and MacGILLYCUDDY’S Children’s Consignment Shop are neighborhood staples that have an intergenerational history loved by long-time residents and newcomers as well. MRG hopes to add to the rich and welcoming history of this neighborhood, by bringing the vibrancy of Vancouver’s art community to the doorstep of Mackenzie Heights and surrounding residents.
As a newcomer to Mackenzie Heights, Monica Reyes Gallery hopes to become a cultural hub on the westside, a boulevard that continues to reinvent itself to reflect a changing community. While this particular pocket is home to many residents that are immersed in the arts, engaging with visual arts has often meant leaving the neighborhood to visit cultural institutions located downtown. And while it’s often refreshing to leave our neighborhoods and go exploring, it’s also exciting to have exciting artists and engaging dialogue available a few steps away. The intention of opening of MRG’s new space in this westside hub, is to bring the artists and conversations closer to an under served community. MRG welcomes our neighbors who are curious about art, and neighbours who are long-time followers of the gallery, to come together and interact with works from our dynamic roster of visual artists.
Serving the local and international art scene since 2013 from Strathcona, MRG promotes artist initiatives invested in shaping the economies of art and culture. From our second new location in Vancouver’s west side, MRG hopes to further engage and diversify the voices of Vancouver’s art economy while fostering the interaction of fresh perspectives and local histories.
Mónica Reyes Gallery is beyond thrilled by the warm welcome we have received from Mackenzie Heights locals and we look forward to growing and shaping the Vancouver arts community from this vibrant and unique location.

COMBINE Art Fair returns!
COMBINE Art Fair returns to Griffin Art Projects for a second year this coming December 8-11, 2022
COMBINE Art Fair had its inaugural edition in December 2021 when it opened as a new collaborative model where multiple Vancouver galleries were housed under one roof. This venture saw over two hundred participants attend in the space of four days and inspired a conversation about how a 'boutique' event might contribute to the Vancouver art scene.
COMBINE will take place once again in 2022 at Griffin Art Projects Residency from December 8th to 11th, 2022. Griffin is pleased to collaborate once again this year with Monica Reyes Gallery, Unit 17 and WAAP (Wil Aballe Arts Projects). We are thrilled to welcome a new gallerist to Combine Art Fair, Montreal-based Hugues Charbonneau, whose exciting work and artists will bring new discoveries this year. With Griffin's mandate as a collector-driven institution to feature private collections for free to the public on the West Coast, we are pleased to support and contribute to this exciting venture.
As we know, within the Vancouver art ecosystem, there are many interdependent parts: artists, collectors, galleries, non-profits and institutions. All are needed to thrive and keep the ecosystem healthy. Galleries are vital for nurturing emerging artists and for exposing young collectors to new audiences.. The galleries featured in COMBINE Art Fair will once again provide an access point for new art being made on the West Coast while expanding to a national conversation. The fair is also apt for more seasoned collectors who want to continue learning about new voices in the local scene and beyond.
The project began at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic, as a way to respond to the challenges of attending national and international events, and has evolved over the course of three years. By exploring new art fair models and means of collaboration, we continue to look to contribute to the arts ecology nationally and locally.
Founding galleries Monica Reyes Gallery, Unit 17, WAAP will work with Griffin to create COMBINE Art Fair, which offers fresh perspectives on contemporary art and collecting. The overall project is intended to create an exciting new art fair event that supports our local art community during these extraordinary and continually evolving times while suggesting a new model for the future.
