Vox - Upcoming Exhibtion - Opens in April, 2026

Curated by Zoe Zafiris-Casey and presented by Mónica Reyes Gallery in Vancouver, Vox II marks the second iteration of the exhibition, following its inaugural presentation on Salt Spring Island in November 2025. Bringing together a compelling group of contemporary Canadian photographers, the exhibition gives form to the urgencies of our time. Anchored in the idea of voice — the distinct perspective each artist brings to the act of looking — Vox II gathers images that reflect both the vulnerability and resilience shaping our present moment.

“Collaborating with these artists and asking them to contribute pieces for this show that truly communicate what they want to say — their unique voices — has inspired an achingly beautiful and thought-provoking exhibition,” said Zafiris-Casey. Each artist brings a distinct voice, process, and visual language. Through their lenses, these contemporary photographers speak to a moment marked by heightened concern for our planet and the fragility of humanity. Together, their images reflect both the harsh realities and the contrasting beauty that define our present moment.

Zafiris-Casey said her curatorial process was sparked by the “intimate and unapologetic” work of Kali Spitzer, whose exhibition at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria served as a major inspiration. The final selection features a diverse range of styles, each adding a vital layer to the broader conversation. Sage Szkabarnicki-Stuart offers vibrant, edgy work described as “visual commentary on existing and questioning one’s way in our world.” Whitney Lewis Smith’s photographs carry a “delicate and mystical beauty” that invites pause and reflection. Rydel Cerezo, a former Salt Spring National Art Prize finalist, continues to intrigue with powerful figurative work.

The exhibition also features Francis Willey, a Calgary-based artist who participated in the 2025 Sex and Politics exhibition during Paris Photo week, alongside compelling new work from Southern Gulf Islands photographers Seth Berkowitz, Susan Huber, Eli Horn, John David James, and April Winter.

Zoe Zafiris-Casey is a curator and art consultant living on Salt Spring Island. She is the curatorial director of the Salt Spring National Art Prize and the gallery curator for ArtSpring. Zoe has a long history of involvement in the arts, including managing art galleries and arts events, facilitating artist workshops, consulting for fine art galleries, and providing arts education opportunities in her community.
