Sima Fabricant
Sima Fabricant (b. 2003) is a painter based in Vancouver, BC. She is originally from Oakland, California, and has a BFA in visual arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Through abstraction, her paintings explore ideas of perception, embodiment, and play. She draws inspiration from somatics, dance, meditation, and everyday mundane experiences in both domestic and urban life. Her process leans heavily on improvisation; each layer of paint becomes an intuitive reaction to the last. There is a heavy musical influence in the work that she channels through the formal qualities of painting, including colour relationships, use of pattern, texture, and form. While experimenting with dichotomies of flatness and depth, movement and stillness, gesture and shape, she builds up layers of paint to create complex and dynamic compositions.
