FotoFilm 14
Fotofilmic was founded in Vancouver, Canada by VNB in 2012 as a global film-photography publication and curation platform dedicated to emerging and unknown photo talents attached to film worldwide.
In the global context of digital technology FotoFilmic reflects an ongoing transformative understanding of Film Photography as a distinct fine art medium and practice within contemporary photography. While most film shooters are presently found in academic art departments pursing advanced degrees, FotoFilmic’s core intention is to open wide the publication doors of contemporary film photography to all talented amateurs without restriction of ages or location that demonstrate high quality of execution and creative envisioning. To do so FotoFilmic organizes each year a global juried film photography competition & exhibition open to all ages and nationalities. Unique in its scope and genre and presently in its 2nd edition, the FotoFilmic Competition aims at bringing the entire world community of photographers attached to film and preceding historical processes closer together in an effort to both promote emerging talent and help redefine the artistic significance of the medium’s contemporary practices. FotoFilmic also created a 12-month limitedPRINTSHOP offering exclusive print editions and collections of ShortListed photographers from each annual competition as an additional commercial means to jumpstart the selling of their selected works on the global art market and help build extra revenues to support their practice. Recurrent FotoFilmic feature publications include FILM TALKS – interviews of advanced film photographers, editors and publishers of film photography -, FILM STORIES - quick word bites & thoughts on the history of photography and great 20th C. photographers -, and FILM SPOTS – another interview series presenting film lab, darkroom & photo stores owners’ viewpoint on the film photography industry at large. The rapidly changing and restructuring industries involved with the production and distribution of film photography materials, as well as the means to maintain and foster educational channels for their use are altogether another strong area of focus at FotoFilmic.
